Health and Culture

The Organisation for Planning and Environmental Protection of Athens (ORSA) of the Hellenic Ministry for the Environment, Physical Planning & Public Works, financed in 1997, a research project for the Asclepieion Park of Athens, as proposed by the Association "Friends of the Asclepieion Park of Athens".

The Project covered the following topics:

	definition of basic concepts: Asclepieion Park within the Urban web, Culture and Health in the urban web, including recreation activities etc.
	investigation of the potential to develop a Modern Asclepieion in a given urban area
	study and description of main implementation axes of such an initiative, description of strategies and proposals for immediate implementation and step by step realisation of parts of the Asclepieion Park.

The Project was carried out by a Research Team composed of scientist from the University of Athens, the National Technical University and the National School of Public Health, under the responsibility of the School of Medicine of the University of Athens.

Scientific Co-ordinator of the Project was Assoc. Prof. Dimitrios Sotiriou. The Project was completed in May 1998
